The decision to veil is not taken lightly by the women who voluntarily practice this devotion. In the same way, perceptions of them require careful thought as well. Although many still misunderstand veiling, this practice has gained ground. It would reflect Christian charity to be fully informed before judging.
The devotion of wearing a veil should indicate an inner holiness and submission to the will of God. If the resolve is to be taken seriously, if the Lord is to recognize our gift of self, our actions must speak fully and without reservation. Otherwise we are no more than the clanging gong of self congratulatory vanity.
We cannot veil what is inside our hearts and souls. Wearing a chapel veil is no excuse not to fix your hair. In the same way, hiding what is inside our hearts and souls cannot be hidden from God, Who sees all.
